About The Area

notts Island is located in Historical Currituck County at the northeastern corner of the Coastal Plain province. It is a small sliver of land which is almost like a finger extending from the massive hand of Virginia Beach, Virginia.  Currituck Sound sits to the north side of the Albemarle Sound.  It is bound on the East and thusly protected by what is called the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Knott's Island is an Inner Island.  The topography is quite flat. It remains a rural county, which in recent years has experienced rapid development growth.  This property is surround on the North and East side by agriculture land mass which is farm. Very few inland and upward forest exist here.  The mainland here is swamp forest and marshes that are associated with major rivers, sounds, swamp forest, and such names as Dismal Swamp and Great Swamp and Back Bay. This is an estuarine system being the second largest (next to Chesapeake Bay) in North America. Over 50% of Knott's Island is protected by the National Wildlife Refuges of Mackay Island and Currituck National Wildlife.

113 Duck Lane has Water Access and Water View. Boats, Canoes, Kayak's can all be launched by way of short walk. The Atlantic Ocean Front is a six to eight minute boat ride from Brumley Road Launch site. This would be Carova, North Carolina which is a habitat for Wild Ponies, Wild Boar, Secluded Beaches, and a Currituck County Park. Much of the surrounding sound and marshlands are protected and/or owned by a combination of Federal, State, and private conservation owners such as Ducks Unlimited.

Currituck Sound furnishes a daily harvest of sweet blue crabs. The Marsh Causeway has fishing access which reaps Stripped Bass for the fisherman along with Catfish, Perch and other sustainable fish. The Mackay Island Wildlife Refuge provides freshwater Blue Gills along with unbelievable photography opportunities for the likes of endangered species of wading birds as well as threatened species of marsh birds (least bitterns, marsh wrens, and rails) along with migratory birding and wintering waterfowl such as Ducks Swans, and Geese.
Knott's Island is 3 x 5. Three miles wide and five miles long. 50% is National Wildlife Refuge.

It is not bi-sected by a road like the Outer Banks. It is accessed from the North Carolina by Ferry. We call this, "Our Personal Chauffer". We are accessed from the North by hard surface road N.C. # 615 (Princess Anne Road) coming from Virginia Beach, Virginia. Virginia Beach, Red Mill Area, is approximately a 25 minute drive.
